The composition is built around the core motifs of the suzani tradition: circular sun medallions (shamsa) believed to symbolize joy and protection rendered here in deep crimson on blush grounds in the upper corners; a commanding central tulip-bud form enclosed in a scalloped medallion; and a riot of scrolling vines, carnation-like flowers, and pomegranates cascading across the field.
