Snow on the rooftops. Blossoms on the branch. Both at the same time.

This is Abyaneh in the last days of winter — the red-ochre buildings dusted white, the mountains still capped with snow, and yet the tree arching overhead is already in full bloom. The village doesn't wait for spring to announce itself. It arrives before the snow has finished.

The composition looks up from street level across the flat rooftops and cylindrical water tower, past the carved lattice windows, out to the Karkas Mountains behind. It's painted in a loose atmospheric style — more landscape than illustration — that captures the particular quality of light you get at altitude in central Iran when the sky turns that specific shade of blue.
